Base Rate is the minimum rate of interest that a bank is allowed to charge from its customers. The RBI decided that the banks will switch over to the system of Base Rate w.e.f. 1st July.2010 by replacing the existing BPLR system. Following the reduction in Cash Reserve Ratio from 4,75% to 4.50% w.e.f. 22-09-2012 by Reserve Bank of India as announced in the Mid Quarter Policy Review, the State Bank of India, country’s largest bank, has decided to reduce its Base Rate from 10% to 9.75% w.e.f. 20-09-2012 and SBAR (BPLR) from 14.75% to 14.50% w.e.f. 27-09-2012
